Exfoliation is a natural process where, the upper layers of your skin cells are shed, thus stimulating the production of new, healthy skin cells. Exfoliation also stimulates new collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin. This effectively results in a slight thickening and tightening of the skin on the face which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and some of the other effects of skin aging.

Retinol is a chemical exfoliating compound that is available in stores and in the face creams and other products offered by Dr. Otis Allen. A retinol cream can be applied to trouble spots on the skin on your face, chest, neck, shoulders and hands to stimulate the natural process of exfoliation and help to restore some of your youthful appearance.

You should also keep in mind that there is a notable difference between retail level retinol, which is available to the average consumer and the compound known as Retin-A, which is only available from a prescription from Dr. Otis Allen

Retin-A is essentially a much more powerful version of retinol. It also can help with the reduction of dark spots and other types of skin discoloration. Since it could cause dryness and minor skin irritation it’s use needs to be monitored and advised by a trained physician. Some people use retinol products for basic exfoliation before turning to stronger Retin-A based creams and gels.
